Aug 21, 2016
Here are the news stories we are keeping an eye on this week:
- On August 16th, at a ceremony in San Francisco, the US Navy named a ship after the legendary Harvey Milk. Milk, a Navy veteran and one of the first out individuals to be elected to public office in San Francisco, used his voice to be an incredible advocate for the LGBTQ community. Additionally, transgender Navy veteran Paula Neira was named a sponsor of the ship. Neira was instrumental in lifting the ban on transgender individuals serving in the Navy. Read more about these two historic events and incredible individuals.
- The final week of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is upon us. Between the exciting sporting events, check out these four Brazilian LGBTQ films.
- Lastly, we will not forget the tragic shooting that took place in Orlando in June. Head here to learn how you can take action in wake of these events. MTV’s True Life: We Are Orlando premiered earlier this week, and you can view it here.
